Article 1. Name
1.1 The name of the Association will be ICDDR,B Alumni Association (ICDDR,B AA).
Article 2. Secretariat
2.1 The Dhaka office of the ICDDR,B Staff Welfare Association will be the Secretariat of the
ICDDR,B AA.
Article 3. Membership
2.1 Any former staff member, member of Board of Trustees, affiliated student, volunteer or long-term consultant, who worked at least a year in ICDDR,B or its former entity Pak-SEATO Cholera Research Laboratory and Cholera Research Laboratory, hereinafter mentioned as the Centre, can become a member of the ICDDR,B AA.
Article 4. Objectives of ICDDR,B AA
4.1 The overall objectives of the ICDDR,B AA, hereinafter mentioned as AA, will be to encourage fellowship amongst the families of all former employees of the Centre.
4.2 The objectives will include:
a. To arrange an annual get-together and such other social activities that are feasible.
b. To facilitate availing of healthcare services at subsidized rate; eligibility to attend open meetings and scientific conferences/forums, and to obtain library card to use the Centres library free of charge.
c. To provide any feedback to the Centre through the Executive Committee (EC) of the AA and to enhance the goodwill of the Centre.
d. To raise funds for the AA and assist fundraising for the Centre as well.
e. To update the list of the members and their addresses to improve communication among the members. Lists will be maintained on chapter basis, i.e. America, Europe, Africa, Australia, and Asia and the Middle-East chapters.
f. To use Centres website to include Alumni news and activities.
Article 5. Convening Committee
5.1 The Convening Committee (CC) will be the initial policy-making body of the AA to draft rules and bylaws. The recommendations of the CC are subject to the approval of the general body. Once the Charter and the Bylaws are approved by the general body and the EC is formed or elected/selected, the CC will be ceased or dissolved.
Article 6. Executive Committee
6.1 The EC will be responsible for planning, preparing and executing the programme of the AA to implement the objectives of the AA (Article 4).
Article 7: Composition of Executive Committee
7.1 The EC will have 15 members elected by the general members, have 4 ex-officio members, and have one nominee from each Chapter (4.2.e), taking into consideration gender equality, to serve for two years as follows:
One President
Two Vice Presidents
One General Secretary
One Treasurer
Two Joint Secretaries
Eight Members
Executive Director of the Centre, President of SWA, immediate past President and General Secretary of AA as ex-officio members
One nominee from each Chapter
7.2 Of The 15 members, at least 4 members shall be selected/elected from existing staff of ICDDR,B to the Executive Committee of AA for smooth conduct and functioning of the affairs and programmes of the AA.
Article 8. Working Committees/Sub-committees
8.1 The EC is empowered to form working committees/sub-committees as and when required to facilitate programmes and activities of the AA.
Article 9. Election of Executive Committee
9.1 The EC will constitute a two-member Election Commission to arrange and conduct the election of the office bearers of the EC.
Article 10. Rules and Bylaws
10.1 Any change in the Rules and Bylaws needed will come through the EC which will subsequently be approved in the next meeting of the general body. The Rules and Bylaws, among others, will also include the functions of the office bearers of the EC.
