Ethical Review Committee

The ICDDR,B Ethical Review Committee (ERC) examines all research protocols involving human subjects to ensure that they follow the Centre's ethical principles. The Committee also takes into account other, both local and international, guidelines for biomedical research in its deliberations. ERC approval is mandatory before ICDDR,B researchers may begin work on any research protocol involving human subjects.

The ERC is an independent body made up of members with different backgrounds both from the Centre and from outside. There are ex-officio members from the Bangladesh Medical Research Council (BMRC), the Centre's Programme Coordination Committee (PCC), WHO and ICDDR,B.
