Rotavirus Vaccine Program

The Rotavirus Vaccine Program (RVP) was established in 2003 by PATH, with the aim of reducing child morbidity and mortality from diarrhoeal disease by accelerating the availability of rotavirus vaccines appropriate for use in developing countries. Funding is provided by the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI) and the Vaccine Fund.

It is likely that at least one rotavirus vaccine will become available on the global market within the next few years. To avoid lengthy delays in making this important vaccine accessible to children in developing countries, where most of the rotavirus deaths occur, the RVP is harnessing the resources and commitment of the vaccine industry, public health organizations, donors and governments.
