International Childhood Cancer Forum: Exploration and Setting Priorities for an Unmet Need in Bangladesh

ICDDR,B organized the inaugural session of a two-day international workshop titled International Childhood Cancer Forum at the Sasakawa Auditorium on 30 March 2010. This workshop was jointly organized by British Columbia Cancer Agency, Vancouver, Canada, Bangladesh Medical Research Council, Dhaka, ICDDR,B, Centre for International Child Health, British Columbia Children Hospital, Vancouver, Canada, Teenage and Young Adult Cancer, University of Manchester, UK and EHIME University, Japan.

Honorable State Minister for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the Government of People’s Republic of Bangladesh Dr Captain (Retd) Mozibur Rahman Fakir graced this inaugural ceremony as chief guest and The High Commissioner for Canada Mr Robert McDougall and Acting World Health Organization Representative in Bangladesh Dr Serguei Diorditsa were special guests. The session was chaired by the Acting Executive Director of ICDDR,B Dr M A Salam.

Dr Golam Mohiuddin Faruque, Associate Professor of Radiotherapy, Dhaka Medical College, Professor O B Tim Eden, Honorary Professor of Paediatric and Adolescent Oncology, University of Manchester, England, Dr Stuart Peacock, Co-Director of the Canadian Centre for Applied Research in Cancer Control & Senior Scientist of British Columbia Cancer Agency, Vancouver, Canada, Dr Charles P Larson, Director of the Centre for International Child Health, British Columbia Children’s Hospital and Dr Paul J Rogers, Medical Director & Division Head of Paediatric Oncology/Haematology/ BMT, C&W Hospital & University of British Columbia, Canada made informative presentations in the session.

The technical sessions of the workshop were held at Bangladesh Medical Research Council auditorium.
