The launching ceremony of the Centre for Control of Chronic Diseases in Bangladesh (CCCDB) was held on 26 April 2010 at Sasakawa Auditorium of ICDDR,B in presence of leading cardiologists, pulmonologists, oncologists, diabetologists, endocrinologists and other health professionals from national and international leading chronic disease specialty institutes of the country. The Executive Director of ICDDR,B, Professor Dr Alejandro Cravioto, inaugurated the session. Director General of Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Professor Dr Shah Monir Hossain, graced the occasion as chief guest while eminent cardiologist of Bangladesh National Professor Brig (Retd) Dr Abdul Malik was the Guest of Honour. Other distinguished speakers included the Executive Vice President of UnitedHealth Group,USA Mr. Simon Stevens; Acting Director of National Health, Lung and Blood Institute of USA Dr Susan Shurin; and the Executive Director of UnitedHealth Group Global Chronic Disease Initiative Dr Richard SW Smith. The CCCDB Project Coordinator and Programme Head of Health and Family Planning Systems Dr Tracey Pérez Koehlmoos concluded the programme with an inspirational vote of thanks.
