Animal Resources

Animal Resources Branch (ARB) of ICDDR,B is the only organized laboratory animal facility in Bangladesh, where Rabbit, Guinea pig, Rat and Swiss albino Mice are scientifically bred (Line bred). We have also Balb/C mice (Close bred) for monoclonal antibody study by producing ascites / tumors. ARB is a conventionally well developed animal house in all aspect including all facilities available i.e. nutritionally balanced diet, optimal temperature and humidity, sterile bedding materials and other related environmental factors necessary for breeding of the lab animals. We have also a sheep colony for supplying blood to the media and lyophilization unit for preparing bacteriological culture media.

ARB supplies 100% of research animals and eventually provide technical support in doing all biomedical experiments and helps to develop animal models as per requirements of the investigator of this center.

We also fulfill requirements by supplying all species of lab animals to IV fluid section, Drug testing laboratory, Antisera production unit, Microbiology and Virology departments of Institute of Public Health of Government of Bangladesh.

Center also have an Incinerator facility located at Animal Resources for routine disposal of hospital and clinical wastes, animal carcasses and other waste materials.

Moreover, ARB maintains inter-institutional collaboration with BSMMU, BIRDEM, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Dhaka University, Jahangir Nagar University, Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute; Savar, Different diagnostic Centers of Dhaka, American International School and to some leading National and Multinational Pharmaceutical Companies in Bangladesh. Eventually ARB provides internship training to veterinary doctors from BAU Mymensingh, Sylhet Agricultural University, Chittagong Veterinary & Animal Science University and Govt. Veterinary colleges and other national research institutes as when necessary.
