Health Economics Unit

Health economics addresses the efficient use of resources in the health sector.

The Health Economics Unit (HEU) has two main objectives:

  • establish health economics research
  • build the research capacity of ICDDR,B and associated institutes by offering courses in health economics and by leading empirically based projects that recruit and develop junior and senior research staff

It focuses primarily on research and training in healthcare financing, the economic burden of ill health, and the economic evaluation of health intervention programs.

Established in November 2010, the HEU is now in a unique position to combine scientific health knowledge with economic analysis, which together can inform resource allocation and policy formulation.
